Valery Karbalevich: Authorities Lost Information War

The political scientist explained why the dictator dismissed the leaders of the largest state-owned media.

The political observer Valery Karbalevich commented on the resignation of Henadz Davydzka, Pavel Yakubovich and Yury Kaziyatka in an express comment to Salidarnasts.

– I think that this is a postponed echo of the events of the spring of 2017," – he remarked. – When there were mass actions of non-parasites, when the authorities realized they were losing the information war... When up to two million people watched online reports of independent media, which is much more than daily views of news programs on Belarusian television.

The authorities decided that something must be done. This is an attempt to somehow win this information war from the independent media.

According to Karbalevich, this demonstrates that the country's leadership is "dissatisfied with the society's attitude towards the authorities."

The political scientist draws attention to the fact that Lukashenka "has always been acting like this" and recalls the case when, following the results of the "presidential campaign" in 2010, the head of Belteleradiocompany Aliaksandr Zimouski, the deputy head of the administration of the ruler Natallia Piatkevich, who ran the ideology at that time, were sent off.

– Because it was a loss at that time. Now the authorities understand that they are losing again – that's why they are trying to change something, – he is sure.

According to Valery Karbalevich, the recent blocking of the Charter-97 and Partizan web sites also logically fits into this theory:

– Moreover, the Minister of Information Aliaksandr Karliukevich said one day before that serious amendments to the law on mass media are coming, so we should expect a whole set of solutions on the issue to appear.

The political scientist believes that with this development of events we should not exclude that the authorities will deliver other surprises as well – already in the near future.
