To preserve US aid under Trump.
Ukraine has launched an active diplomatic campaign to convince Donald Trump that military aid to Kyiv cannot be stopped, as this could affect US global leadership.
El Pais reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized the importance of US support, stating that without it, the country would be in a difficult situation.
During his election campaign, Trump promised to stop billions in arms supplies to Ukraine and focus on quickly ending the war, even if this required territorial concessions in favour of Russia. Zelensky, however, hopes that Trump's statements during the campaign and his actual steps as president may differ.
Zelensky has already begun communicating with Trump, congratulating him on his election victory and expressing hope for a "new era for all of us." In a telephone conversation, the Ukrainian president called Trump a leader capable of achieving a 'historic result' and emphasized the importance of American support.
In addition, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak confirmed that relations with Trump are of strategic importance for Ukraine.
At the recent Kyiv Economic Forum, this topic was actively discussed by both business representatives and politicians, since the future resolution of the conflict may depend on the position of the new US president.
Zelensky and his team hope that even if Trump limits direct military supplies, he will continue to support Ukraine through other channels.
