Hope Cannot Be Defeated

Christmas morning in Ukraine.
Right now, Russian cruise missiles are flying over Poltava, Kirovograd, Cherkasy and Vinnytsia regions. There are explosions and fires in Kharkiv and Dnipro.
Air raid alert has been declared throughout the country. The target of the Russian attack is energy infrastructure facilities. The enemy wants to leave ordinary Ukrainians without electricity, water and heat.
At the same time, very close by, in European cities, festive lights are burning on the streets and squares and Christmas trees are joyfully decorated.
Soon these cities will wake up and the holiday will begin in them.
The war is far from here. People are tired of war, they read less and less war-related news and more and more talk about how, somehow, peace will come. Most often, hopes are associated with Trump.
They hope for peace in Ukraine too. And here they are tired of war. Very tired.
But this fatigue is not the same as a willingness to surrender.
A willingness to give in to an enemy whose missiles and drones hit civilian targets every day.
Even today. Even on Christmas.
Christmas is a bright holiday of hope, a magical holiday that fills life with warmth, joy and anticipation of the best!
May all your most important hopes come true!
This year, Christmas coincided with another holiday of hope — the Jewish Hanukkah.
The holiday of lights.
On Hanukkah, people also wish each other joy, light, peace and warmth.
This holiday is also associated with a miracle, symbolizing hope and rebirth. Victory and deliverance from enemies.
And there is a bitter irony in the fact that it is precisely light, peace and warmth that they are now trying to deprive Ukrainians of.
But hope cannot be defeated. It is stronger than anything.
Happy holiday to all of you! Merry Christmas!
And happy Hanukkah!
