Aliyev Leaves Informal CIS Summit

The head of Azerbaijan urgently went to Baku.

The head of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev interrupted his visit to Russia against the backdrop of the crash of a passenger airliner that took off from Baku, RIA Novosti reports citing a source.

An informal CIS summit will be held in the Leningrad Region today, December 25.

“In connection with the tragedy, the President of Azerbaijan is returning to Baku,” the agency’s source said.

Today, December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane took off from Baku to Grozny. Due to fog, it was redirected to Kazakhstan, where it crashed. Preliminary, the cause was a collision with birds. There were 67 people on board, including 16 Russians. 25 people survived, their citizenship is still unknown.
