First Unit of Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Shut Down

For scheduled preventive maintenance.

The first power unit of the Belarusian NPP was taken out for the third scheduled preventive maintenance on December 3, the press service of the plant reported.

The notice notes that such work is carried out at each power unit of the NPP annually "to reload nuclear fuel in the reactor facility and maintain the safety and reliability of equipment and process systems at the highest level."

Specialists will perform scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, defect detection and repair of equipment and process systems. They will also check the condition of the base metal and welded joints of equipment and pipelines.

"An important part of the upcoming work will be the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh fuel - about 25% of fuel assemblies with fresh nuclear fuel will be loaded into the reactor core," the company reported.
