In two regions.

The Brest and Vitsebsk regions will resume collecting a local fee for vehicles crossing the state border at checkpoints in the amount of one base fee. The regional “councils of deputies” approved this by the decisions # 62 dated December 26, 2024, and #69 dated December 30, 2024. They are published on the National Legal Portal.

The fee will be collected from February 1, 2025.

This fee was collected until January 1, 2025, by three regions — Brest, Vitsebsk, and Hrodna. The Brest and Hrodna regions have temporarily suspended the local fee for crossing the border from January 1 to January 31, 2025.

What fee is that?

It is important to note here that a local fee for vehicles crossing the state border when leaving the country was introduced in 2021. It is valid in three regions — Brest, Vitsebsk and Hrodna. It must be paid when leaving for EU countries, but not for Russia. The amount of the fee is set by regional Councils of Deputies, it is one base fee (currently 42 rubles).

Currently, this tax is not permanent, local authorities must decide whether to extend it or not.

Officials have allowed regional “councils of deputies” to approve such a fee on a permanent basis from 2025.

The State Border Committee previously stated that this fee is “aimed at combating the coronavirus infection”. And although its peak has long passed, this fee is still in effect. At the same time, the peculiarity of this fee is that it is local, that is, it goes to the budget of a specific region.
