The country was engaged in the search for a "peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict."
The Republic of Armenia is considering the possibility of appealing to the OSCE on the issue of liquidating the Minsk Group, which was engaged in the search for a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict
This was stated by the press secretary of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nazeli Baghdasaryan on Facebook.
Baghdasaryan recalled the words spoken by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on December 19, 2024 in an interview with Armenpress in response to a question about Armenia's position on the idea of liquidating the OSCE Minsk Group.
It's constructive. We understand the position that if there is no conflict, what is the meaning of the existence of a format dealing with the settlement of the conflict. But we also want to make sure that Azerbaijan is guided by this logic, and its desire, for example, to develop the term of the so-called West Azerbaijan, is not the implementation of an aggressive policy towards the territory of the Republic of Armenia," Pashinyan's press secretary quotes his words.
Baghdasaryan also wrote that Nikol Pashinyan stated that there can be no West Azerbaijan on the territory of Armenia, and also stressed the need to abandon this term, which calls into question the territorial integrity of Armenia and the establishment of peace.
Recall that in June 2024, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev proposed to liquidate the Minsk Group. During a conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, he spoke in favor of officially terminating the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group and all related institutions in order to "completely close the page of the conflict" with Armenia, the press service of Aliyev reports.
According to Aliyev, the Minsk Group for 28 years allegedly tried to solve the Karabakh problem, but in fact tried to freeze it, "and four UN Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities meant no more than a piece of paper," Aliyev said then.
On January 8, in an interview with the Azerbaijani media, Ilham Aliyev again stated that without the liquidation of the Minsk Group, there can be no signing of a peace treaty with Armenia.
The Minsk Group was established in 1992 from among the OSCE member countries with the aim of finding ways to peacefully resolve the Karabakh conflict. The group is co-chaired by Russia, France and the United States and includes Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as Belarus, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Finland and Sweden.
