The 22-year-old young woman was convicted for an anti-war post.
At the end of 2024, 22-year-old Danuta Peradnia, a former student of the Philological Faculty of the Mahiliou State University, was released, the Palitvyazynka initiative reports. Information about her release also appeared in the database of the human rights initiative Dissidentby.
Recall that on July 5, 2022, the Kirausk court sentenced Danuta Peradnia to six years in prison for an anti-war post that the young woman posted on a social media. In early November 2022, the Mahiliou Regional Court overturned this decision, but by the end of the month, after a review of the case, Perednia faced the same verdict.
The 20-year-old student of Romance and Germanic Philology at the Mahiliou State Kuleshov University was detained by security forces on February 28, 2022, when she arrived by minibus from Kirausk to Mahiliou.
According to human rights activists, she was accused of reposting a text in one of the Mahiliou chats on February 27 that sharply criticized the actions of Vladimir Putin and Aliaksandr Lukashenka to unleash the war in Ukraine. It also contained a call for street protests.
On June 10, the State Security Committee added Danuta Perednia to the list of "persons involved in terrorist activities."
Perednia was an excellent student and had only positive references from teachers. However, immediately after the criminal case was initiated, she was expelled from the university.
