House In Australia, Where Legendary Rock Band AC/DC Was Founded, Has Been Brought Down By Mistake

For a long time, this house was a place visited by fans of the rock band from all over the world.

In the suburbs of Sydney, Australia, the house where the legendary rock band AC/DC was founded was mistakenly demolished. This is reported by CNN..

The demolition included a one-story brick house in Burwood, where brothers Angus and Malcolm Young spent their youth and founded the band. The family of musicians moved to Australia from Scotland. For a long time, this house was a place visited by fans of the rock band from all over the world.

In March last year, the celebrities’ former house was bought by the developer Burwood Square. They paid $3.6 million for it, and in December 2024, they decided to demolish the house. Now the developer claims that he did not know about the cultural significance of the building.

The CEO of the company said that “the previous long-term owner did not share this important part of the history of the property.” He said he was shocked to learn of the house's connection to the rock band after it had been demolished.

The former home of the AC/DC founders will be replaced by a 50-storey building with 120 hotel rooms and 48 apartments.

The house was reportedly in a state of disrepair. The Young family lived there from 1965 to 1978. In 1985, a brothel opened in the building, and later it housed a doctor's office. Although the house was listed on the Australian National Trust Register in 2013, it was not granted historic protection to prevent demolition. As the documents state, “the period of the band's occupancy of the house was too short to be relevant to the life and work of AC/DC.”
