‘Diplomatic Degradation Of Lukashenka Regime Is Progressing’

Why did Belarusian officials go to the Taliban?

In order to fake international activity, Lukashenka's diplomats are taking extreme measures, writes a reader of the Charter97.org website:

— The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan announced (a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Siarhei Lukashevich and representatives of the Taliban to discuss possible cooperation. The Taliban, with whom the high-ranking official held talks, are included in the lists of terrorists of the UN Security Council and ... the Belarusian KGB.

This diplomatic step will tarnish the Belarusian dictatorship and will not bring any economic benefit.

In Afghanistan, under the Taliban, half of the population is on the brink of survival. Due to international sanctions, the Taliban regime is deprived of an influx of currency and investment, and the country has no legal access to modern technology. The international community is concerned that the economy of the Emirate of Afghanistan is oriented towards the Pashtun part of the population, and numerous ethnic and religious minorities are discriminated against. The Taliban's policy towards women is especially outrageous. If during the last two decades of pro-Western governments, they made up 20% of the working population, by the end of 24th year — only 5%. At the end of the same year, the Taliban adopted new laws in the spirit of medieval fundamentalism. Women are completely prohibited from working and studying, and even from speaking in public. In impoverished Afghanistan, after the war, there are many large families left, the only breadwinner in which is a working widow. Such families are at risk of starvation.

Any successful trade between the Lukashenka regime and this “wonderful” state is also doubtful. All possible money from the Taliban will be received by other participants of the axis of evil: China, Russia and Pakistan, closer logistically and more influential in the region.

The result of the communication of the Belarusian dictatorship with marginal regimes will be the final destruction of their international authority.
