‘They Ask To See Other Documents’

What is happening on the border of Belarus with the European Union.

Illegal phone checks, “conversations” with security forces and detentions continue on the border of Belarus.

BGmedia journalists read what users of border Telegram chats wrote last week and at the beginning of this week about phone checks and interrogations on the Belarusian border.

On Monday, January 20, a participant in one of the border chats wrote that at the Brest checkpoint they ask to show Polish documents (residence permit, passports):

“Crossing the border of the Republic of Belarus - Republic of Poland by bus today, 20.01 (09.15 from Brest). The hundred-meter distance is empty, immediately on the way. The Belarusian border is empty, immediately to passport control with all your things. In the hall, all things are checked manually, they also ask to see Polish documents (cards, passports). We stood for a while at the exit from the border + the bridge (about 1.5 hours). The Poles were second, it took about an hour and a half in total.”

Mostly, in border chats, they write veiled messages about interrogations at the Belarusian border, if these are not citizens of Ukraine or other foreigners:

“Warsaw-Minsk, 19.01.2025. 12.02 — Polish passport control. 12.28 — the bridge. 12.45 — start of Belarusian control. 13.25 — finished. 7 buses were in line for Belarusian control after us. 13.40 — got on the bus, waiting for people from the conversation. 14.25 — we left, did not wait for the people (Polish time).”

“Tell me, did they take Ukrainians for the interrogation, or Belarusians too?”

"As far as I understand, a father and son with Ukrainian passports and a woman (I don't know what passport she had, but I heard that she answered at the Polish passport control that she lived in Germany).”

“It turns out that only 5 people were taken off the bus”

“Warsaw - Minsk, 19.01.2025. Polish time. 12.25 — departure from Chopin airport. 15.45 — beginning of Polish passport control. 16.04 — bridge. Belarusian time. 18.15 — beginning of passing the Belarusian border. 21.50 — they let us go only because we had 6 people for the conversation and one was taken off.”

“RP - RB. 23.16 — we drove up to the Polish border, one bus in front of us. 23.35 — we passed the Polish control. 04.00 — we passed Belarusian control. Result: almost 5 hours at both borders. 2.5 hours waiting for people from the conversation.”

“Vilnius - Minsk. At 07.13 we left the bus station. At 07.57 we were at the border, at 08.21 we left the Lithuanian passport [control]. Then it's RB time. At 09.35 we went to the RB passport control. 10.00 — we passed, but we were standing and waiting for someone. We are all standing and waiting for something. How annoying they are with their hour-long interrogations. 10.55 — we left the border. Result: Lithuania — 25 minutes, RB — 1.5 hours with 9 passengers.”

“Good afternoon, who is currently seeing a car with the license plate AI 8631 OE, please respond, some friends are driving, we have not been in touch with them for a long time.”

“It makes sense that with such license plates they are being interrogated.”

“Maybe they're waiting for a conversation.”

“Most likely.”
