Zelensky: Ukraine Never To Recognise Occupied Territories As Part Of Russian Federation

The dialogue with Russia should take place only from a position of power.

Ukraine will never legally recognise the occupied territories as part of the Russian Federation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this during a meeting with representatives of the International Mediarada, Censor.net reported.

Zelensky noted that for Ukraine, the occupied territories will always remain Ukrainian until their return under the control of the state.

‘Whoever wants whatever. Let even all the allies of the world unite - we still do not recognise the occupied territories. It is impossible. We do not legally recognise them. For us they will always remain occupied territories until we return there,’ the head of state said.

The Ukrainian President also stressed that dialogue with Russia should take place only from a position of power, as any attempt to treat the aggressor as an equal is a defeat for Ukraine.

‘Putin cannot be subjectivised in this story. He has violated everything. He is guilty and must realise it. But he cannot be stopped if talking to him on equal terms - it is a defeat for Ukraine,’ he added.

Zelensky separately noted that the end of the active phase of the war is the main priority for the country:

‘We must find every opportunity to end the hot stage of the war. This is the number one issue. There can be many negotiations, but the main thing is to stop the active phase. This is the number one security guarantee,’ the Ukrainian president summarised.
