Trump Announces $500 Billion AI Infrastructure Investment In US

Stargate, a company to develop artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, will be created in the United States. This was announced by US President Donald Trump along with the heads of OpenAI Sam Altman, SoftBank Masayoshi Son and Oracle Larry Ellison, CNN reports.
Stargate will be “the largest AI infrastructure project in history,” the president said. “Physical and virtual infrastructure to support the next generation of AI” will be built, including data centers across the United States. The first data processing facility is already under construction in Texas.
Three companies will invest $100 billion in the project, with investments set to increase to $500 billion in the coming years, and 100,000 new jobs will be created in the United States.
Altman expressed confidence that the project will be the most important in the current era and as this technology develops, “we will see diseases being cured at an unprecedented rate.”
“[AI] requires a huge amount of infrastructure, power, computer chips, data centers, and we need to build all of that here, and we need to be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world to lead with technology and capabilities,” Altman said in a December interview.
In January, OpenAI published a report that the US could ensure it beats China by investing in AI infrastructure. The company estimates there is $175 billion in global funds “waiting to be invested in AI projects.”
“If the US doesn’t raise those funds, they will go to projects backed by China, which will increase the global influence of the Chinese Communist Party,” OpenAI argued.
