Canada Imposes New Sanctions Against Lukashists

The restrictions affect 10 individuals and 12 entities.

Canadian authorities are imposing sanctions against 10 individuals and 12 entities of the Lukashenka regime. This was reported on Monday by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ottawa imposed sanctions against Lukashenka supporters and businesses in coordination with the United Kingdom.

“Today, (Canada's) Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly announced that Canada is imposing new sanctions against 10 individuals and 12 entities under the Special Economic Measures (regime) in response to the Lukashenka regime's ongoing gross and systematic human rights violations in Belarus, as well as its support for Russia's violations of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Canadian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

According to a statement from the Canadian Foreign Ministry press service, the organizations included in the sanctions list include three Belarusian state organizations and nine enterprises of the Belarusian military-industrial complex. The statement from the Foreign Ministry says that the latter were involved in the “production and supply of military equipment that is sent to Russia” for use in Ukraine. “Some senior officials of these enterprises are also subject to sanctions,” the press release notes.

Those included in the sanctions lists are responsible for “serious human rights violations”. Some of those sanctioned after the “elections” in Belarus have direct ties to individuals already sanctioned for participating in human rights violations, the statement from the department says.
