Biden’s executive orders extended.
U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order concerning sanctions against Russia for the second time since returning to the White House.
On Saturday, April 12, the American leader extended the restrictions imposed on Russia by his predecessor Joe Biden for another year since 2021. The relevant information is contained in a document from the U.S. Federal Register.
The document states that the executive orders declaring a national emergency in relations with Russia have been extended.
According to the statement, Russia’s harmful foreign activities continue to pose an extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States, which is why the sanctions will remain in force for another year.
In particular, U.S. authorities emphasized that Russia threatens free elections and democratic institutions both in the United States and in allied countries. The document also highlights Russia’s violations of international law, including breaches of other countries’ territorial integrity.
President Joe Biden declared the national emergency in U.S.-Russia relations on April 15, 2021. On March 8, 2022, Biden issued an order expanding the scope of the emergency, followed by several additional executive orders broadening sanctions measures against Russia.
