At Least 26 People Killed By Militants In India

At least 26 people were killed in an attack by a militant group in the Indian tourist town of Pahalgam on Tuesday, 22 April. This was reported by Indian TV channel NDTV and newspaper Greater Kashmir, citing official sources. Authorities have not yet reported the number of casualties.
Most of the dead were tourists. It is also reported about several injured, they were taken to hospital, notes the AFP news agency.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the ‘disgusting crime’ and stressed that the perpetrators would be punished. Omar Abdullah, chief executive of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, said the scale of the attack on civilians was ‘beyond anything we have seen in recent years’.
According to the Greater Kashmir newspaper, The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-backed militant group recognised as a terrorist group in India, claimed responsibility for the attack. The group considers the Jammu and Kashmir region to be occupied by India, says a statement circulating on social networks that Indian media attributed to TRF.
