There will be instead a meeting of senior officials of the five countries.
The meeting of the foreign ministers of Ukraine, the UK, the USA, France and Germany, which was supposed to take place on 23 April, has been postponed. Negotiations on Ukraine will be held between senior officials of the five countries.
This is reported by Sky News.
‘Top diplomats from Britain, the US, France, Germany and Ukraine have postponed their plan to meet in London on Wednesday (23 April) for high-level talks on how to end the war,’ the report said.
According to the newspaper, a meeting of senior officials from the five countries in question will take place instead. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga is in London, where he will hold a bilateral meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy.
According to Sky News, the level of talks in London has been ‘downgraded’ to a meeting between the officials because Ukraine rejects the US plan to recognise Crimea as Russian. According to media reports, Ukraine wanted ceasefire discussions in London.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not come to London, where he was supposed to meet with the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Britain, France and Germany. CNN wrote that Rubio cancelled the trip because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refused to recognise Crimea as Russian.
Sky News notes that following Rubio's cancellation of the visit, France and Germany also likely changed their minds about sending ministers to London. The publication adds that US envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg will take part in discussions in London with senior French and German officials instead.
