The dictator asked not to pay attention to ‘negative remarks’.
In Belarus, “no one is banning the St. George ribbon,” said Aliksandr Lukashenka during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Volgograd on April 29, according to BelTA.
At the meeting with the Russian dictator, Lukashenka explained that “in Belarus, in addition to the ‘Immortal Regiment’ march initiated by Russia—where the St. George ribbon is used as a symbol—youth had earlier launched the annual campaign ‘Belarus Remembers.’”
“When you launched the ‘Immortal Regiment’ march, we in Belarus followed that path. But at the same time, along with the St. George ribbons and the regiment march, youth [initiated the campaign] ‘Belarus Remembers.’ And no one is banning the St. George ribbons in any way. Although I did look into the history. I advise you to take a look—have historians provide you with all the information about the St. George ribbon. We do not deny it. Although the history of the ribbon is rather peculiar,” Lukashenka emphasized.
He added that he sees “nothing wrong” if “someone wants to wear the St. George ribbon.”
“If someone prefers ‘Belarus Remembers’—those symbols. They go together. No one is dividing anything. Well, someone just needs to make noise,” Aliaksandr Lukashenka added.
He advised Putin “not to pay attention to certain negative remarks” on the matter.
“Our idea is absolutely the same. You know our ideas, and we know the Russian ones. It’s one Fatherland, as I say—from Brest to Vladivostok,” Lukashenka assured.
