CNN Has Published Confessions Of Chinese Who Fought Against Ukraine

One of them called the Russian army a laughing stock.

A Chinese man who is fighting against Ukraine in the ranks of the Russian army called on his fellow citizens not to repeat his mistakes.

In a telephone conversation, the 29-year-old foreigner told CNN that until 2018 he was a soldier in the People's Liberation Army of China, and when the full-scale war began, he felt a "desire" to serve.

He assures that he had no political motives - only a desire to feel the "taste of military life" abroad.

According to the occupier, he could have gone to fight for Ukraine, but it was easier for him to get a tourist visa to Russia. In 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defense refused him because he did not know Russian, so the Chinese man went to Donbass as part of the private military company Wagner. Already in May 2024, he signed a one-year contract with the Ministry of Defense and went to Bakhmut. The foreigner says that the contract provided for a salary of 200 thousand rubles and an additional 50 thousand for each kilometer of advancement.

After spending a year at the front, he calls his decision to go to war a mistake. According to the occupier, he could barely raise his head in the trenches, and after an argument with the commander about protective equipment, he was locked for 21 days in a cramped and dark pit with steel bars:

"I must tell the truth and warn these irrational Chinese - do not come here. The second army in the world is just a laughing stock."

A Chinese citizen, who is currently recovering from injuries received at the front, complained to journalists about the conditions in the Russian occupation army. In particular, about poor quality equipment, inadequate logistics, cruel treatment and serious corruption. He says hundreds of other Chinese are fighting on the Russian side. Most of his “comrades” did it for the money, since they “came from the lower classes.”

Another Chinese mercenary told reporters that he earned about three times more in the Russian army than he did in his homeland. The 37-year-old occupier joined the Russian army in July 2023 and spent a year there. He says he cannot pinpoint the reason for his decision, but money was not the main factor.

According to CNN, several Chinese also fought on the Ukrainian side. The publication confirmed their presence in one of the battalions, but the Ground Forces could not provide their total number, since each unit recruits its own fighters:

“The Chinese fought on both sides of this war, but those who decided to fight for Ukraine - and who mainly consider themselves motivated by ideology, not money - have one thing in common: they spent time outside of China.”

Journalists tell the story of Jason, a Chinese man who moved to the United States while still in high school. In the spring of 2023, he dropped out of a master's program in computer science and went to Lviv to join the International Legion.

After four months of service, the infantryman applied for a transfer to an assault company, but the commander refused him due to bias regarding his nationality. The man has already returned to the United States and says that he understands the commander's decision, because "China and Russia are close enough."
