He was suspected of espionage.
Former Swedish ambassador to Ukraine Tobias Tyberg was found dead in Stockholm on May 16. He had been arrested the day before on suspicion of spying for an unnamed "hostile foreign state".
This was reported by Expressen.
According to media reports, the man in question was an employee of the Swedish Foreign Ministry who was detained by the SAPO security service on May 11 and released from custody on May 14 while remaining under investigation.
The diplomat's lawyer, Anton Strand, said that his client denied all charges and filed a complaint against the police, claiming that excessive force was used on him during the detention.
The diplomat also sought medical attention after his release from custody. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the death, but do not suspect criminal intent yet.
In the meantime, the Swedish Foreign Ministry confirmed the death of its employee, expressing condolences to the family and declining to comment further due to the confidentiality of the case.
SVT also reported that the espionage case is related to former Swedish ambassador to Ukraine Tobias Tyberg. On May 10, he resigned from his position as national security adviser hours after being appointed to the post.
It turned out that shortly after Tiberg's appointment was publicly announced, an anonymous person sent the government several personal photos of him.
