The President Of Poland Sent A Letter To Pope Leo XIV
Andrzej Duda

Andrzej Duda expressed confidence that the pontiff would contribute to the end of hostilities in Ukraine.

Polish President Andrzej Duda has expressed hope for a speedy end to the war in Ukraine in a letter to Pope Leo XIV. The head of state wrote a special letter in connection with the official start of the pontificate, which will take place tomorrow, reports Polskie Radio.

In the letter, the president recalls the new pope's first words in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican - "May peace be with you all." Andrzej Duda wrote that these words were taken with hope for a quick end to the war in Ukraine.

"I trust that Your Holiness will be given the task of facilitating the end of this conflict - so that our part of Europe can once again enjoy peace; so that the vision set forth by our great compatriot, St. John Paul II, namely an order based on the Decalogue, freedom, the dignity of every human being, respect for all cultures and traditions, and respect for the right of peoples to self-determination, will be realized here," the president wrote.

Andrzej Duda also expressed Poland's readiness to strengthen ties with the Holy See. He also wished the pope "all God's blessings necessary to fulfill the mission of the Vicar of Christ - the Builder of Bridges."

Tomorrow, the Vatican will host a Mass that will officially open the pontificate of Leo XIV, who is known to the world as Robert Prévost.
