Poland Is Holding Presidential Elections

There are 13 candidates vying for office in the first round.

Today, May 18, Poland is holding the first round of the presidential election, Charter97.org reports with reference to Polish media.

The main struggle is expected to unfold between the three candidates.

The polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (08:00 - 22:00 Minsk time).

If none of the presidential candidates receives more than 50% of the votes, a second round will be held on June 1. The two candidates who received the most votes in the first round will take part.

The newly elected president must take the oath of office by August 6, 2025, as the powers of the current head of state Andrzej Duda end on that day.

Presidential candidacy is open to Polish citizens who have reached the age of 35, are not disenfranchised and have collected at least 100,000 signatures in support of their candidacy.

Karol Nawrocki (non-partisan, supported by the Law and Justice party)

Slawomir Menzen (Confederation)

Magdalena Beyat (non-partisan, supported by the New Left and the Polish Socialist Party)

Arthur Bartoszewicz (non-partisan)

Grzegorz Braun ("Confederation of the Polish Crown")

Marek Jakubiak ("Kukiz15", "Federation for the Republic)

Macej Maciak (non-partisan)

Although 13 candidates will compete for the presidency, according to pre-election polls, the main battle will be between three politicians: Rafal Trzaskowski, Karol Nawrocki and Slawomir Menzen.

According to the latest pre-election poll conducted by United Surveys for Wirtualna Polska on May 13-15:

Rafal Trzaskowski remains the leader of the presidential race with 31.5% of support, despite a 1.7 percentage point drop during the week;

Karol Nawrocki recorded a significant increase and gained 26.6%. This is a jump of as much as 3.4 percentage points;

Third place in the rating is occupied by Slawomir Menzen, who has 11.7% support.

If a second round takes place between Rafal Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki, Trzaskowski is predicted to win, with 56.2% support against his opponent's 43.8%.
