The invitation was extended by the U.S. vice president during a meeting with the pontiff at the Vatican.
The White House has invited Pope Leo XIV to the United States. The invitation was extended during a meeting with the pontiff on May 19 at the Vatican by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. This was reported today in Washington by White House Press Secretary White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt:
"The Vice President gave the Pope a letter from the President and First Lady in which they expressed warm wishes and invited him to the White House as soon as he could come."
Pope Leo XIV's conversation with J.D. Vance lasted more than 40 minutes. The American vice president then met with the head of Vatican diplomacy, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
