EES Instead Of Stamps: How The New System At The EU Border Will Affect Belarusians

There are pros as well as cons.

The EU Council and the European Parliament have agreed to launch the EES system at EU borders. Thanks to it, the stamping of passports at the borders will be abolished. But will it bring additional inconvenience to Belarusians, who are going to the European Union? "Belsat" dealt with the editor-in-chief of the VisaFlow resource Anastasia Lysakovskaya.

The interviewee of "Belsat" noted from the very beginning, if you look at how long this system has been adopted, you can understand: neither Brussels, nor the countries of the Schengen zone have a common opinion on this issue.

But if we consider what pluses it can bring, it is likely that in the long term we will see a reduction in queues at the borders.

"Not immediately, as this program is likely to be tested, and in the beginning queues are possible. That is, probably, in Lithuania, Latvia, where before and now there is not a very big load, the situation will not deteriorate much. And in Poland, perhaps the situation will be worse in the beginning, because the new system will be tested, and it is not certain that it will work well right away. It should be taken as a given", - said Anastasia Lysakovskaya.

The second plus can be called that the system will allow tracking all entries and exits of citizens.

"And further, when the decision on the next visa will be made, the consulate will see where you were and when you passed the border, there will be no need to prove it with documents", - says the interlocutor.

But there is also a downside, continues Anastasia Lysakovskaya, as probably not all countries will have access to this system and they will not see the passage of borders. Therefore, this moment can be attributed to both pluses and minuses.

"I think in the future it will speed up the process of passing the border, and in general, perhaps, the processing of visas. That is because there will be more information at the border control, migration service and consulate. This will improve the system, exits and entries will be better controlled", - said the editor-in-chief of VisaFlow.

As for the situation with the issuance of humanitarian visas, according to Anastasia Lysakovskaya, especially this system will not change much. But all this will be seen only after some time, because, as our interlocutor emphasized once again, the system has been introduced for a very long time. Now some mistakes have been corrected and finally they agreed that it should be introduced.

But this system may well affect the issuance of permanent and temporary residence permits in the EU countries, says the interviewee.

"As we know, temporary and permanent residence permits require proof of passing the border and staying in the country. So it will be more transparent, and migration services will have more information," summarized Anastasia Lysakovskaya.
