The country's birth rate has halved in eight years.
Over the past eight years, the birth rate has halved in Belarus. This follows from the data published by the National Statistics Committee, reports "Euroradio".
In 2024, 58,938 people were born in our country, while in 2016 there were 117,779 people. It's easy to calculate that the number of newborns last year is 50.04% of the level of 2016.
And the level of decline is approximately the same in all regions, as can be seen from the statistics.
The low birth rate can't be attributed to the outflow of population from Belarus and natural mortality. According to the official information of the same Belstat, the population of the country at the beginning of 2016 amounted to 9,498,400 people, and at the beginning of 2024 - 9,156,000 people. Thus, over these eight years, the population has decreased by only 3.6% (342.4 thousand), while the number of newborns - by 50%.
