The country's legislation has been amended for this purpose.
Latvian troops together with allies will start testing modern naval drones. Such tests will take place at a new testing ground on the shore of the Baltic Sea.
The press service of the Latvian Defense Ministry reports.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds said that in the context of growing security threats, it is important to develop marine drones. At the same time, testing such drones in natural conditions is an important step to strengthen the country's national defense.
"By creating a platform for testing marine drones, we are simultaneously supporting the development of innovations in the defense industry," he added.
The country's legislation has already been amended to make it possible to test marine drones at sea safely and under control. The first tests at the Shkede Naval Proving Ground are scheduled for the second half of June this year. It is planned that they will be regular.
The Defense Ministry noted that such tests contribute to increasing operational readiness and improve cooperation with allies.
