The British Conquered Everest In A New Way

They made it to the top in less than five days.

Four Britons became the first climbers in history to conquer Mount Everest by inhaling xenon, an inert gas that some research suggests may help the body better adapt to hypoxia, Reuters and BBC reported.

The expedition took just four days and 18 hours - a record time for a climb without standard acclimatization Before the expedition, the climbers underwent three months of training: they trained in hypoxic tents with reduced oxygen levels and inhaled xenon in a German clinic two weeks before their trip to Nepal.

It usually takes six to eight weeks to acclimatize before climbing the world's highest peak. Such a steep climb without a full-fledged adaptation raises serious concerns among experts. Although some scientists believe that xenon can stimulate the production of erythropoietin, a protein that helps fight oxygen deficiency, there is still no conclusive evidence of its effectiveness or safety in the high mountains.

The International Mountaineering Federation warns that inhaling xenon can be dangerous, and the president of the Nepal Expedition Operators Association insists: climbing without acclimatization is against the basic rules of mountain tourism. He suggests that such climbers' certificates should not be recognized.

Instead, expedition organizer Lukas Furtenbach argues that fast climbs are more environmentally friendly and reduce risks for climbers because they spend less time in a dangerous environment.
