The Parliament of Denmark has approved a plan for a phased increase in the retirement age - by 2040 it will reach 70 years. This is reported by the news portal The Local Denmark.
The changes will affect those who were born after December 31, 1970. Now Danes retire at 67, in 2030 the threshold will rise to 68, in 2035 - to 69, and in another five years - to 70.
This system has been in place since 2006 and is automatically linked to the growth of life expectancy: the retirement age must grow by one year every five years.
"We no longer believe in an automatic way of raising the retirement age," Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said earlier that the model should be revised.
In 2022, a Danish government commission proposed weakening the direct link between life expectancy and retirement age. Such an approach, according to experts, would preserve budget sustainability without further tightening of retirement conditions.
