Poland Considers Lithuania's Proposal To Join The Lawsuit Against Lukashenko

The dictator is accused of violating international treaties.

Poland knew in advance that Lithuania was preparing a lawsuit against Lukashenko's regime in the UN International Court of Justice. Now the Polish side is studying the proposal of the official Vilnius to join this suit. This is stated in the official response of the Polish Foreign Ministry to the request of "Euroradio".

"The Ministry notes with satisfaction Lithuania's initiation of a case against Belarus in the International Court of Justice. We note that we were aware of these plans and agree with Lithuania's assessment of Belarus' gross violation of international law, including the protocol against the illegal transportation of migrants.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is carefully considering Lithuania's proposal in the context of our country's possible participation in the consideration," reads the response of the Foreign Ministry.

On May 19, Lithuania filed a lawsuit against Belarus in the International Court of Justice for organizing the migration crisis on the border. Official Vilnius accuses Lukashenko's regime of violating international treaties, including a protocol against the smuggling of migrants. Later, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda invited the countries of the region affected by the migration crisis to join the lawsuit.
