They were found near a luxury resort.
The bodies of five skiers have been found near the elite Swiss resort of Zermatt near the border with Italy.
It was reported by BBC with reference to the local police.
The bodies were found a day after emergency services received a report from a group of climbers who were ascending the Rimpfischhorn, a 4,199-meter peak in the Valais Alps, of several pairs of skis left unattended near the summit. They were below the summit on the Adler Glacier.
The victims were found at various heights on debris created by an avalanche. The rescue service said three bodies were found in one area and two more were found higher up in a narrow section of snow.
The identities of the dead have not been released.
Cermatt is one of Switzerland's most prestigious alpine resorts, visited by wealthy British and other European skiers. But the ascent of the Rimpfischhorn is considered a more challenging expedition.
All climbing routes involve an overnight stay in a lodge at the summit.
