As early as 2029, Russia could attack NATO.
The inspector general of the German Armed Forces, Karsten Breuer, has ordered that the German army be fully equipped with weapons by 2029 amid the threat of a Russian invasion of NATO, Reuters reported.
The journalists clarify that the official document Priorities for Improving Combat Readiness, which Breuer signed on May 19, says Germany will achieve this goal with funds that came from the country's debt easing in March this year.
The decree prioritizes arms procurement and development, partly in line with NATO recommendations. It also specifies a requirement to strengthen air defense, particularly to combat drones.
NATO sources tell Reuters that NATO is pushing for Germany to increase the defense capabilities of its air defense systems by at least four times, covering both long-range systems like Patriot and short-range systems
Another objective is to develop long-range precision strike capabilities of more than 500 kilometers, which would allow targets deep behind enemy lines to be hit. Breuer also ordered to increase the number of storage facilities for replenished ammunition.
According to Breuer and other NATO military officials, by 2029, Russia could rebuild its forces to a level sufficient to attack the territory of Alliance states, the publication said.
