Russian Ambassador Summoned To Finnish Foreign Ministry

The reason is the airplane incident.

Finland's Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Pavel Kuznetsov over an alleged violation of the country's airspace by Russian warplanes.

The Russian diplomat has been asked to explain the incident, the ministry wrote on social network X on Monday, May 26, without giving further details, according to Deutsche Welle.

In the meantime, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reported that the incident in question was a May 23 incident in which two Russian warplanes were spotted off the coast near Porvoo. Finnish border guards have launched a preliminary check and Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen has stressed that he takes the alleged border violation seriously.

Finland earlier said it had become one of the countries that would supply weapons to Ukraine with proceeds from Russian assets. The authorities in Helsinki concluded a corresponding agreement with the European Commission, its amount is estimated at 90 million euros.

In the meantime, on May 22, Poland reported the interception of a Russian Su-24 bomber in international airspace over the Baltic Sea. According to Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, the Russian warplane made dangerous maneuvers, with the pilots' actions being "deliberate and posing a threat." The Polish Air Force was able to detect, intercept and effectively push back the Russian plane, the Polish Defense Minister further pointed out. In mid-May, Estonia accused Russia of violating its airspace.
