This claim may also be relevant to cases before the European Court of Human Rights.
During his visit to Lithuania, European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner expressed support for Lithuania's lawsuit against Belarus over the migration crisis, which was organized by Alexander Lukashenko's regime, writes LRT.
Magnus Brunner said he fully supports the actions of Lithuania and other EU countries on the issues of cost recovery, as well as Lithuania's decision to appeal to the International Court of Justice. The action, according to Lithuania's Justice Ministry, could also have implications for cases before the European Court of Human Rights.
Last week, Lithuania, along with eight other EU countries, published an open appeal calling for a review of approaches to interpreting the European Convention on Human Rights, especially in the area of migration. Brunner also supported this appeal, emphasizing the need to adapt legal instruments to modern challenges.
He noted that the European Commission aims to support member states through the implementation of the new migration pact, the creation of a return system for migrants and the concept of a "safe third country".
