Ukraine And Finland Set Up The Coalition Of Civil Protection Shelters

Kiev plans to raise 14 billion euros to build shelters.

Ukraine and Finland have launched an international Coalition of Civil Protection Shelters. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal after talks with his Finnish counterpart Petteri Orpo.

The statement on the creation of the coalition was signed on Wednesday, May 28, by Shmygal and Orpo. Within its framework, the parties agreed to:

→ coordinate the efforts of partners to build shelters;

→ share best practices in this area;

→ create and support financing mechanisms for the construction of civil protection facilities. In particular, one of such tools could be the Ukraine Facility program launched by the European Union.

Shmygal stressed that Ukraine now has more than 62,000 shelters, but much more are needed. In addition, a number of facilities need to be modernized and upgraded.

"The government is already implementing a shelter construction strategy. Our goal is to build 2,300 civil protection facilities by 2027 and another 3,000 by 2030. We expect to use the funds of the coalition's activities to attract about 14 billion euros of resources for the construction of shelters," Prime Minister said.

Shmygal urged the international community to join the coalition and contribute to the development of protective structures in Ukraine.
