Azerbaijan Accuses Russia Of Cyberattack On Media Outlets

The actions of the Kremlin hackers had clear political overtones.

Moscow-linked hacker group APT29 (Cozy Bear) is involved in a cyberattack on a number of Azerbaijani media outlets.

The chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament's commission on countering foreign interventions Ramid Namazov said this on May 2, the APA agency reported.

The official said the investigation found that the February 20 attack was carried out by hacker group APT29, also known as Cozy Bear - it is linked to Russian military intelligence.

The group specializes in cyber espionage against government agencies, diplomatic missions, defense, energy and media structures.

"The attackers penetrated media information systems in advance. Their actions had a clear political subtext," Namazov said.

He linked the hacker attacks to the closure of the Russian House in Baku in early February and the shutdown of the local editorial office of Sputnik radio.
