Ukraine's president urged them to step up sanctions.
In Kiev, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting with US senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, representing the Republican and Democratic parties of the United States. This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The key topics of the meeting were the US bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, coordination of diplomatic efforts to achieve peace and development of bilateral relations between Ukraine and the United States.
The President of Ukraine thanked both houses and parties of Congress, the American people for their support of Ukraine and, separately, US President Donald Trump for his efforts to end the war.
Zelensky also expressed gratitude to the senators for visiting the site of a missile attack in Kiev, where on the night of April 24 Ro Russia demonstrates the desire for peace only in statements, but is preparing to conduct new offensive operations.
At the same time, the senators emphasized that Russian propaganda is trying to impose on the world the opinion about the success of the Russian Federation on the battlefield, but in fact this is not true and Ukraine continues to fight against the aggressor.
Separate attention was paid to increasing pressure on Russia. Zelensky noted the Gramm and Blumenthal bill on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia and called on the US Senate to consider it.
The head of state said it was important to tighten sanctions against the energy and banking sectors, as well as to reduce the ceiling price for Russian oil to $30. In addition, the president noted the introduction of secondary sanctions against companies that help Russia circumvent the restrictions.
Other important topics include strengthening Ukraine's air defense, the return of Ukrainian children deported by Russia, and the agreement on the creation of the US-Ukrainian Investment Fund for Recovery.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine proposes to conclude free trade and defense cooperation agreements with the United States, which should strengthen bilateral relations and, together with the agreement on the creation of the investment fund, should be considered by the US Senate.
