Belarus Is Preparing Serious Changes To Mandatory Vaccinations

Vaccination against several infections is going to be added to the calendar.

Vaccination against meningococcal infection is going to be included in the National calendar of preventive vaccinations. This, as the portal "Healthy People" reported the head of the Council on Immunoprophylaxis of the Ministry of Health Oksana Romanova.

The specialist noted that meningococcal infection is particularly dangerous for children under 5 years old, adolescents and elderly people over 65 years old.

In addition, the vaccination calendar may be supplemented with vaccines against chickenpox, hepatitis A and rotavirus infection.

- Rotavirus infection, which seems to be manageable. At the same time, it can give such complications that children end up in intensive care units. As for chickenpox, children usually tolerate it normally, but every year about 10 children come to the hospital with bacterial complications that require surgery and antibiotic therapy," Romanova said.

She also added that the expansion of the calendar, of course, requires additional funding, and therefore in this direction is actively working together with the Ministry of Health and epidemiologists.

Now the National Calendar of preventive vaccinations includes vaccination against 13 infections. Last year, the calendar added vaccination against human papillomavirus for girls aged 11. As Romanova reported earlier, the HPV vaccine is expected in May-June, and mass vaccination will tentatively begin in the second half of the year.
