The Arab Emirates and Turkey took the first place in popularity.
During the May weekend, there was a significant increase in flight activity by Russian business jets associated with politicians and entrepreneurs. A notable part of the Russian elite spent or is spending the beginning of the month in the Middle East and Africa, reports The Moscow Times.
The Arab Emirates and Turkey are expected to be the most popular destinations. According to private aviation flight tracking resources, an Embraer Legacy 650E (RA-02875) associated with Sberbank head German Gref was spotted in Dubai, UAE. A Bombardier Global 7500 (RA-73592), one of the most expensive private jets in Russia, was spotted in the Emirates' capital Abu Dhabi. It is linked to businessman Albert Avdolyan, who is friends with Rostec head Sergei Chemezov and sometimes lets him fly his planes.
A Bombardier Global 6500 (RA-73573), used by the largest latifundist and former agriculture minister Alexander Tkachev, and a Bombardier Challenger 850 (RA-67244) linked to Ukrainian-born businessman Sergei Kurchenko, who lives in Russia, headed to the UAE.
Turkey has also attracted some of Russia's elite. The Bombardier Global Express 5000 (RA-67226), which is linked to the family of former President Dmitry Medvedev, was in Istanbul for May, while the Gulfstream G650 (RA-11000), linked to Eurochem owner Dmitry Mazepin, was in Bodrum, Turkey.
Some members of the Russian elite preferred more exotic destinations. The Dassault Falcon 8X (RA-09606) used by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov flew to Oman, while a Bombardier Global 6000 (RA-67160) associated with steel magnate Alexei Mordashov went to the Seychelles. On May 1, a Bombardier Global 5000 (RA-73577) associated with pharmaceutical tycoon Alexei Repik also ended up there - the same flight previously used by Vladimir Putin's daughter Ekaterina Tikhonova. But this board did not stay in Seychelles and continued its flights - on May 3 it stopped in the Maldives, and on May 5 it flew to the mysterious Zanzibar (Tanzania).
