The statement was made by the country's defense minister.
Pakistan is ready to end its military conflict with India if New Delhi also agrees to it, the Islamic republic's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said. "During the last two weeks, we have continuously said that we will never take hostile action against India. But if we are attacked, we will retaliate. If India retreats, we will certainly end these tensions," Asif said in an interview with Bloomberg TV.
On the night of May 7, India announced the launch of Operation Sindhur, targeting "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistan, writes The Moscow Times.
It was in response to an attack by armed militants on tourists in the town of Pahalgam in the mountainous Anantnag district of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. Twenty-six people were killed and dozens injured then. The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. As part of Operation Sindur, India has targeted "terrorist camps" in the Islamabad-controlled part of Kashmir - in Bahawalpur, Kotli, Sialkot, Muridke, Muzaffarabad and other localities. According to Hindustan Times, some of the camps are the headquarters and training centers of the Islamist terrorist groups Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba. One of the camps in Narowal district serves as a base for drones used to drop arms, ammunition and drugs on Indian territory, the newspaper claimed. A total of 12 terrorists were eliminated and 55 others were injured. New Delhi emphasized that no Pakistani military facility was attacked and that the actions were not escalatory.
Pakistan, however, considered India's strikes an act of war. According to Islamabad, New Delhi's attack killed at least 26 civilians and wounded 46. In response, Pakistan launched strikes "from both air and ground" against military installations on Indian territory. The Islamic republic's Defense Ministry said five Indian fighter jets were destroyed, including two French-made Rafale jets. Also, according to Samaa TV channel, Pakistan hit the brigade headquarters of the Indian armed forces. Afterward, according to Pakistani Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, the Indian military raised a white flag in several areas, particularly at the Chora complex on the Line of Control in Kashmir. India did not confirm these details.
