Ukraine Attacked The Base Of Russian Aerobatic Teams Participating In The May 9 Parade

Under attack - "Russian Knights" and "Strizhi".

On the night of May 7, Ukrainian drones attacked two military airfields on Russian territory. Shaykovka in Kaluga Region and Kubinka in the Moscow Region came under attack, Astra reported, citing data from NASA fire monitoring satellites. The attack on Kubinka was confirmed by Z-channel Fighterbomber, which specializes in military aviation. It noted that the Moscow Region airfield is home to the Russian Knights and Strizhi aerobatic groups, which are participating in the Victory Day parade on May 9. "They are trying to spoil our parade and are hitting the deployment sites of personnel and equipment," Fighterbomber wrote. At the same time, he noted that the air part of the show would not be "affected in any way" by the strike, The Moscow Times.

Last night, Ukrainian drones also attacked Tula and Saransk, where military factories were hit. In Tula, the attack could have targeted JSC "Instrument Engineering Design Bureau" - one of Russia's largest defense industry enterprises, which develops precision guided weapons for the ground forces, Navy and Air and Space Forces.

In Saransk, according to Astra, a fire after a drone attack broke out on the territory of Optofiber Systems, Russia's first and only optical fiber plant. Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to Ukraine's interior minister, earlier noted that this enterprise produces fiber optic cables used to control drones in the war against Ukraine. The second fire occurred a few kilometers away from the first, presumably at the Saranskkabel machine-building enterprise. There was no official confirmation of this information.

The Russian Defense Ministry did not provide data on the number of drones intercepted and shot down over the last night. The day before, on May 6, almost two hundred drones were shot down over Russian territory, according to the military department's summary. Because of this, at least 14 airports were closed during the day (some of them several times): Moscow Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo, in Kaluga, Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, Ivanovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Sochi, Kazan and Nizhnekamsk. In connection with this, on May 6 and 7, many airports in Central Russia were in chaos. Passengers of canceled or delayed flights sat for hours in the buildings of air hubs, many of which were overcrowded. People often complain about the lack of assistance from airlines, which do not provide food, drink and overnight accommodation to the victims.
