Training centers systematically "stamp" untrained drivers.
The level of training of future drivers was discussed at a meeting of the government commission on road safety. Deputy Prime Minister Anatoliy Sivak and the head of the traffic police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Viktor Rotchenkov came to the conclusion: driving schools are failing.
According to the traffic police, only one-third of candidates successfully pass the practical exam at the first attempt. The rest come to the driving range two or three times before getting their license. "This means that driving school graduates are not ready for the real road situation," stated Rotchenkov, quoted by the newspaper "On Guard."
What the Interior Ministry proposes:
to introduce clear criteria for evaluating the work of driving schools;
to withdraw certificates of conformity from those training centers that systematically "stamp" untrained drivers;
to increase the number of hours of practical driving;
to introduce modern simulators and simulators into the educational process.
Specific proposals on the reform of training should be submitted by the end of the third quarter of this year.
Belarus annually records hundreds of accidents caused by drivers with less than two years of experience. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is confident that raising the standards of training will help reduce these statistics.
The topic of driver training has been raised before. In 2023, the Interior Ministry has already strengthened control over the work of driving schools, while the traffic police began to publish the rating of training centers based on the results of passing exams.
