The US President issued a statement after his conversation with Zelensky.

Russia and Ukraine should conclude a ceasefire without additional conditions for at least 30 days, US President Donald Trump said. According to him, negotiations between the sides are ongoing.

"If the ceasefire is not observed, the US and its partners will impose additional sanctions," the White House head wrote in Truth Social. He added that "thousands of young soldiers" are dying every day in the war in Ukraine.

Trump also emphasized that he, along with European partners, will continue to seek a ceasefire between Moscow and Kiev, which should "ultimately lead to a peace agreement."

On the evening of May 8, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky reported a "good conversation" with Trump that concerned, among other things, a peace settlement. Ukraine is ready for a 30-day ceasefire "at least from today," he said. "We expect Russia to agree to this proposal. I confirmed that Ukraine is ready for negotiations in any format," Zelensky wrote in his Telegram channel.
