PRC chief calls for 'fair' peace deal with Ukraine.
Chinese leader Si Jinping told Russian dictator Vladimir Putin during a visit to Moscow that he hopes to see a "fair" peace agreement on Ukraine, Bloomberg wrote Friday, May 9.
In talks with Putin on May 8, Xi indicated that China hopes for a "fair, lasting and binding peace agreement that will be accepted by all parties concerned" and reached through dialog.
The Chinese leader did not specify what he meant by a "fair" agreement. His statement was the first time a Chinese leader has personally outlined China's vision for ending the war against Ukraine, Bloomberg writes.
Xi's comment echoed a March statement by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who said that all parties to the conflict want "a fair and lasting peace agreement that will be binding and accepted by all."
Bloomberg emphasizes that Xi's words came amid U.S. President Donald Trump's call for China to help broker a deal between Ukraine and Russia. Xi is also trying to mend relations with Europe amid a tariff war with the United States, the material says.
In the coming days, China and the United States will hold talks in Geneva on mutual trade duties on goods.
