The protest guild has reached its first agreements with game companies.

The game industry's voice actors' strike, which has lasted since July 2024, may soon come to an end. SAG-AFTRA and major gaming companies including Activision, EA, Epic Games and Disney have reached a tentative agreement.

According to Variety, the new contract includes clear restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence and measures to protect the rights of actors whose voices and images can be digitally recreated. This was a key condition of the negotiations: it was concerns about AI and the possible use of AI clones without the actors' consent that led the union to launch the boycott.

SAG-AFTRA executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ayrland said the industry finally recognized the need for new rules, and it was a big step forward: "Patience and perseverance led us to an agreement that protects the profession in the age of AI."

The agreement has not yet gone into effect; it must be approved by the union's national board and the voting members themselves. Until then, the strike officially continues, although an agreement to temporarily suspend the riot is almost ready.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher emphasized that the actors stood up to the largest employers in one of the wealthiest industries and proved their determination to defend the profession. "As soon as the contract is ratified, we will get back to work and start preparing for the next negotiations.""

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said.
