Zelensky Imposed Sanctions Against A Belarusian "deputy" Who Took Part In The Removal Of Children From Ukraine

The sanctions are in place for 50 years.

Belarusian "deputy", secretary general of the public association "Belarusian Red Cross Society" Dmitry Shevtsov has been included in Ukraine's sanctions list. The corresponding decree Vladimir Zelensky was published on the official website of the Ukrainian president.

Dmitry Shevtsov, according to the decree, as well as other persons included in the sanctions list, can now not use assets in Ukraine, buy land there or even fly through Ukraine.

The sanctions are imposed for 50 years.

In July 2023, Dmitry Shevtsov admitted during another trip to Donbass that his organization was involved in the removal of children from Ukraine.

Before that, Shevtsov had traveled to the occupied Ukrainian territories more than once and was seen wearing camouflage and with the letter Z on his sleeve, although the Red Cross charter requires members of the organization to remain neutral.

After these cases, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) became interested in the case. It condemned Shevtsov's trip to the occupied Ukrainian regions. The organization considered that the circumstances of the visit compromised its fundamental principles. The Federation contacted the Belarusian Red Cross to express "serious concern and to prevent any such activity in the future" and also appealed to the IFRC's Compliance and Mediation Committee to investigate the case.

The IFRC also recommended Dmitri Shevtsov to step aside and asked him to do so by October 3. But in early September, an extraordinary meeting of the XXVI Congress of the Belarusian Red Cross was held in Minsk, at which Shevtsov was unanimously re-elected as general secretary, despite the IFRC recommendations. As a result, the membership of the Belarusian Red Cross in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was suspended from December 1, 2023.

Shevtsov said that the organization had paid for "helping children from Donbass," and the deprivation of membership in the international federation makes the Belarusian Red Cross "only stronger. However, two months later the Belarusian Red Cross appealed to the authorities to oblige the medics to finance the organization - at least in Minsk.
