A curfew has been enforced in the center of California's capital due to looting by protesters.

It was reported by CNN.

Los Angeles local authorities have imposed a curfew in a restricted area of downtown, where mass migrant protests continue.

Mayor Karen Bass said during a press conference that the restrictions will be in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday local time.

The curfew is already in effect in the city and began at 06:00 a.m. Minsk time.

A law enforcement source said the restrictions will affect fewer than 100,000 people out of Los Angeles' 4 million residents.

The city chairman's office also released a chart of the boundaries of the curfew zone in the center of the California capital.

The mayor's office said about 23 businesses in downtown Los Angeles were robbed during protests this week against immigration policies.

Bass clarified that this "violent behavior" was one of the reasons why city officials decided to impose the restrictions.

"The curfew had been under consideration for several days. However, after the violence that occurred last night - 23 stores were looted - and just because of the extensive nature of the vandalism, we have reached a tipping point," she said.

Police said suspected burglars robbed Adidas stores, an Apple Store, two dispensaries, a pharmacy and a jewelry store.
