Norway Plans To Transfer Twice As Many F-16 Fighter Jets To Ukraine As It Announced

Details.

Norway is transferring twice as many F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine as planned. This was reported by the "Militar" edition with reference to Norway's annual report on imports and exports of conventional weapons.

The document says that the country planned to transfer 14 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, while officially announced deliveries of six.

At the same time, the report does not specify the condition of eight previously unannounced aircraft. The publication suggested that perhaps the "extra" planes are unfit to fly, but can be used for dismantling for spare parts or use as bait mock-ups.

"Militar" adds that it is possible that some of the unannounced F-16s have been repaired and brought to a condition suitable for further operation.

On May 15, Norwegian Defense Minister Ture Sandvik said that the process of transferring F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine will be completed within 2025.

Sandvik said that some of the aircraft have already been transferred and the rest will be provided within 2025. At the time, he did not specify the number of fighter jets transferred, citing operational security considerations and agreements with the Ukrainian side.

TWZ estimates that European allies have promised Ukraine about 85 F-16 aircraft. Some of these planes are not being sent to Ukraine but are being used to train pilots, mostly at a training center in Romania, and the US has not handed over serviceable F-16s, only spare parts to maintain the fighter fleet.
