Ukraine's Economy May Overtake Russia's

The U.S. Treasury Secretary made a bold prediction.

The Ukrainian economy in 20 years may surpass the Russian economy. This is possible under several conditions.

As RBC-Ukraine reports, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this during a congressional hearing.

Bessent emphasized that in every country, economic security is national security. At the same time, the minister said, he and U.S. President Donald Trump believe that "a stable Ukrainian economy will be the best defense in the long run."

The minister pointed out that when the Berlin Wall fell, the economies of Poland and Ukraine were the same. But now the Polish economy is three times bigger.

"I believe that in twenty years the economy of Ukraine, thanks to effective management, similar partnership (between Ukraine and the United States - ed.) and global investments, can become bigger than the economy of Russia. And I think that will be a very strong deterrent to those who will then govern Russia," he added.

Bessent also reminded that Rome will host a big conference on Ukraine's reconstruction. And the US is urging the World Bank to focus on it.

He specified that no country that helped the Russian war machine with money, troops, weapons equipment will be allowed to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

"You cannot destroy a country, destroy people, destroy lives and then get money for its reconstruction," the minister said.
