Uncharacteristic Whistling: Russian Federation Attacked Kiev With A New Jet Drone

During the latest large-scale Russian attack on Kiev, a new Geran-3 jet drone similar to the Shahed was probably used. This explains the reports of citizens about strange sounds they heard during the attack.
A Ukrainian military portal Defence Express reports this.
The wreckage of the downed jet drone, which was similar to the Shahed, included details pointing exactly to the Geran-3 version that the Defense Ministry's GSD warned about.
This as yet unknown jet drone was shot down and burned up, but a small-sized jet engine was found among the wreckage, which explains the information about the unusual sound heard in Kiev during the attack.
"The remains of the drone itself are quite badly fragmented. So it's not yet possible to say for sure whether it was the Shahed-238 jet that was shown in Iran back in November 2023. Or it is another long-range jet-powered drone, which, according to the available description, is similar in shape to the Shahed," the portal's experts reported."
But according to them, one of the blocks found at the site of the drone's crash directly indicates that this jet drone shares a number of common parts with the original Shahed-136 design: it is the avionics panel for loading the flight task, starting the engine and all other systems of the drone.
So it was either the original Shahed-238 jet, or a Russian analog already assembled in the aggressor country using existing components. At least, panels and programming systems.
The first time it was reported that the enemy would use a Shahed jet to strike Ukraine was back in January 2024. But then the Air Force Command could not confirm it, despite the presence of wreckage.
And although it is possible that Iran has changed the configuration of the Shahed-238 and went the way of unification, but most likely, we are still talking about the Russian version, experts believe.
"Especially since the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry warned in February 2025 that the Russian Federation is setting up production of an analog of the Shahed-238 kamikaze jet drone under the designation "Geran-3," the report said.
What is known about "Geran-3"
The characteristics of "Geran-3" announced in the GUR are flight speeds of up to 550-600 km/h, which is provided by Iranian small-size engine Tolou-10/13, which is an unlicensed copy of the Czech PBS TJ100.
Additional collection and analysis of information is underway, which should allow us to speak more confidently about the new Russian jet drone, which, with a certain degree of probability, is the "Geran-3".
We recall that on the night of June 10, the Russians launched a massive combined attack on Kiev with Shaked attack drones and ballistic missiles. The consequences of the enemy shelling were recorded in five districts of Kiev and fires started.
