A Passenger Plane Flying To London Crashed In India

There were an estimated 290 people on board.

An Air India passenger plane traveling to London went down near Ahmedabad airport in India.

This was reported by The Time of India.

The accident reportedly happened soon after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhbhai Patel International Airport. The plane crashed in Meghani district, causing a large-scale fire - a thick column of smoke rose above the crash site, which was visible for several kilometers.

The Times of India writes that 290 people were on board the plane at the time of the crash. Meanwhile, ANI cites other data: the plane was carrying 242 passengers.

According to Flightradar24, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with registration number VT-ANB crashed. Air India has already confirmed the crash and said in a statement that the plane was traveling from the Indian city of Ahmedabad to London Gatwick International Airport.

Firefighters, medics and rescue crews have arrived at the scene of the crash. As of now, there is no official information on the number of dead or injured. There is also no word on the cause of the crash.
